About our school – Serving La Plata County for over 40 years
Located on historic 3rd Avenue in downtown Durango, the building was originally a family house. Today, the various rooms have been converted into classrooms, creating an environment that utilizes both inside and outside space to reflect the area’s natural resources. Vegetable and flower gardens are maintained by the students and a central exterior patio area features outdoor learning centers and a sensory garden.
The current priority for DELC is a vision of collaboration with families and the larger Durango community. Our aim is to prepare students leaving DELC with not only pre-academic school readiness skills but, more importantly, a social-emotional foundation of service, kindness, empathy, compassion and an understanding of having a role in something bigger than themselves.
